At the confluence of the Elbe and the White Elbe in Špindlerův Mlýn, a place is being created where the energy of mountain water meets the tranquility of the surrounding forests. It is here, where the wild flow of the White Elbe flows into the wider bed of the Elbe, that a bench has been newly installed since autumn, which resonates with this place in more than just its location.
Its shape naturally follows the line of the confluence – it gently diverges and curves just like the water that meets here and continues in a common direction. It does not seem like a foreign element, but as if it has always belonged here. The visitor does not sit on it just to rest, but becomes part of the landscape for a moment.
The view from the bench opens up to the Pláň massif, whose slopes rise above the valley and offer a different face in every season. In contrast to the flowing water below you, Pláň seems calm and solid - like a silent witness to the constant movement of the river.
The area around the confluence is one of the most picturesque parts of Špindlerův Mlýn. The White Labe brings mountain wildness here, full of rapids and cascades, while the Elbe is already taking its long journey through the landscape. The new bench not only commemorates this moment of meeting, but also makes it present - giving it a shape on which you can sit.
It's a place to stop. A place where there's no rush. And where you just need to be for a moment and watch two currents turn into one.
The Miller's Wanderings
The new bench at the confluence is also one of the stops on the yellow-marked Miller's Trail, Miller's Journey, which takes visitors through the most interesting places in the area all the way to Podgorzyn in Poland. There are a total of four Miller's Trails in Špindlerův Mlýn.
