Mountain hike | Špindlerův Mlýn - Vrchlabí - Žalý - Špindlerův Mlýn

A simple ridge hike suitable for less experienced tourists and families with children takes you from Špindlerův Mlýn to Vrchlabí and back via Žalý. This route offers wonderful views and combines a comfortable journey by bus (car) and cable car with a hike through the ridges.
Departure from Špindlerův Mlýn
The journey begins with a ten-kilometer bus (car) ride from Špindlerův Mlýn to Vrchlabí-Herlíkovice. The journey takes approximately 15 minutes.
Cable car to Žalý (1,019m above sea level)
After arriving in Herlíkovice, cross the bridge over the Elbe and follow the green sign to the cable car to Žalý. Take the cable car to the top of Žalý, where the walking part of our hike begins.

Hiking from the Žalý lookout back to Špindlerův Mlýn
Right at the start of the route, we recommend visiting the 18m high, stone Žalý Observatory, which is one of the most beautiful observation towers in the Czech Republic and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. From the observation tower, follow the red sign in the direction of Rovinka and Špindlerův Mlýn. The walking route is 11 km long without any difficult climbs with an estimated walking time of 3.5 hours.

Descent through Rovinka to the Labská valley
From the Rovinka buffet, follow the green tourist sign to the signpost in the Labská valley (Labská - southern edge), where you turn to the blue sign that will take you to the Labská dam.
Return to Špindlerův Mlýn via the Labská Reservoir
After descending to the dam, cross the dam and continue along the green path past the Elbe dam back to the center of Špindlerův Mlýn.
